Internet Marketing and the New World Order
December 12, 2016
Do you like the title of our conversation? Well it is not going to be about conspiracy theories because those scare me plus the guy at Wikileaks is way cooler so none of that stuff. What we are going to take a look at is how Internet marketing has permeated our everyday life and how you can leverage this resource to hopefully put some cash in your pocket and a smile on your face.
What We Won't Be Telling You
We don't know how to hack Google to make your website rank to the top in a day, if we knew that then a black SUV with PHD kung-fu experts would be smacking us around right now. Google is essentially the gateway to Internet marketing, the majority of people in the "western world" use Google to find everything, if you were the type of person that actually remembered stuff you learned before Google well you are the exception more-so than the rule. The reality is most consumers no matter what it is they want are going to Google and if you want these people to find your website and spend money then you have to get to the top of the search results.
Paying to Play
You could crack open your wallet and spend some of your advertising dollars on Google's AdWords solution in order to move your website to the top of the search engine results. These results are "sponsored" so most people know that you are spending money and will want money from them for that all important "click". What you could also do is come up with an Internet marketing plan that will get your website found by people who are actually looking for whatever it is you are selling, everyone is selling something. The first thing you have to do is develop an Internet marketing plan and don't worry it is actually not that hard to do it just takes a little effort on your part.
Identifying Your Strengths and Playing on Them
Our parents may have told us we could be anything we want to be but let's be real, chances are we won't be a Jedi master ninja turtle that plays Cards Against Humanity with Elon Musk, some dreams we just have to let go. What we need to figure out when it comes to Internet marketing is what our strengths are and play on them, doesn't sound like fun but it can have a huge impact on your earning potential and that is something everyone can appreciate. Think about what gives your website an edge, is it a product or service and if so what makes it unique. Do not focus solely on price because is what you pay, people need to know what they are getting and to do that you have to build value in your online presence.
Develop a consumer centric approach.
This sounds like marketing garbage but what it means in human speak is create your entire marketing approach around the idea, is this helpful to my prospective client/visitor, does it meet their needs? We want money, that is a given but it has to be a two-way street where your needs are met and the needs of your customer but before you can dance with the customer they have to see a benefit. You will probably need to get feedback and insight from other people while drafting this plan, reasoning for this is not to make you less anti-social but what is appealing to you may not be appealing to other so getting a consensus from a variety of people is usually the best way to go.
Realize that it is not going to happen over night.
Google has made the requirements to rank high very transparent, some of the finer details they keep close to the chest but overall if you have great content and provide an engaging user experience then Google will move your website to the top of the search results and that equals traffic and money. In order to achieve that goal you will need to set aside a reasonable amount of time making sure your website follows the best practices Google has in place.
The most important thing you can do when trying to gain ground in the world of Internet marketing (because let's face it, no matter who the president is the Internet is here to stay and if you don't have a strong online presence you are going to suffer.) is to avoid scams that will actually get your website penalized by Google. There are firms out there that promise massive results on Google for a small amount of cash up front. The reality is Google has some of the best minds in the world working for them so the odds of exploiting a weakness is very slim and if a large number of people are using these weaknesses then Google will catch it and destroy the websites that use it. By following the rules you are going to gain market share online but the biggest reason websites fail is that they do not have an Internet Marketing strategy, so the sooner you begin developing yours the faster you can begin ranking, if you need help don't be too proud to ask, it could make the difference between red or black ink on your balance sheet.
